A few cars skidded uncertainly on the icy roads in downtown Americus. Jacquelyn Fudge is a local who has experience driving in snow from visits to grandparents in Harper Connecticut. She gave advice for inexperienced drivers. “Drive slow, and stay inside the trenches of it.” Fudge stated, referred to the trenches made by other drivers. “You feel yourself sliding, don’t hit the brakes. Just hold on to the steering wheel.” She stated if drivers hit the brakes, their tires would lock. She gave a final warning for those who were reckless. “It’s not a time to be cutting wheelies. Gotta be careful.”

Jacob Cross was engaged in a snowball fight with friends and neighbors on Jackson Street. When asked if he had ever seen so much snow before, he replied; “I have a few times, but never in Georgia.”

Cross has been enjoying the rare treat. “I’m having a blast. So far, a lot of snow ball fights. Last night, we went walking through the snow a lot. We walked all the way up and down Lee Street and around downtown, and now we’re working on a snowman.”

Cane Avery, with Parker’s Heating and Air, gave advice to homeowners after the snowfall. “You need to do maintenance anytime you have a snowstorm like this.” He stated that maintenance was important anytime there was extreme heat or cold, so that coils can be cleaned, checked to ensure they were draining properly, and not frozen. Parkers is celebrating their 75th anniversary. “We’re going to hit the ground running tomorrow, going to everybody that’s in our district.”

A snow man was under construction on Elm Avenue. Riccardo Garcia was enjoying the snow with family members and his girlfriend. He stated they had had snow ball fights all morning. “Now it’s starting to go away little by little.” Garcia was making the most of it. “We’re trying to enjoy while we can.”
