The Town and Country Garden Club of Leslie has a long history, with the first meeting held March 30, 1955. The first President of the Club was Cliff (Dorothy) Bass. Some of the regular activities of the Club include maintaining downtown planters and organized 36 years of antique shows.

The Club held a meeting on January 30 at the Leslie Men’s Club building for the purpose of electing new officers. The meeting had previously been planned for the 23, but was rescheduled. Members enjoyed pink cookies atop a plastic table cloth adorned with hearts.

Jolie Ledger discovered a heart on the bottom of her plate, resulting in a door prize win of gloves, garden supplies, and a pouch sporting colorful flower patterns. Gail Enloe, Past President, was presented with a present wrapped in curling multi-colored bows as thanks for her past service.

Lynn Larson gave the Treasurer’s report, with $7,875 in the regular account and $2,700 in the special account.

Phyllis Tucker inducted the new officers, presenting each with a symbolic artificial candle. Kim Baldwin accepted responsibility as Treasurer, Jolie Ledger that of Secretary, Jane Butler that of Vice President, and Lynn Larsen the responsibility of President.

Among topics discussed by the Club were plans for new curtains. The Club also discussed plans to distribute fruit baskets to shut-in former members of the Club. Prices for the Leslie Antique show were raised after lackluster returns the year before. Entry to the show was raised to $6 and the price to become a Patron was raised to $30. The Leslie Antique Show will be held on the 14, 15, and 16 of March.
