The Sumter County Democratic Party met on January 30 at the Americus branch of the Lake Blackshear Regional Library. Rhonda Reddick gave the Treasurers Report, giving the balance at $4,182.02.
District Chairman Will Davis addressed the Committee, commenting on Board of Elections member Dr. Shirley Reese. Reese was appointed to be the democratic representative to the Board of Elections. “If Dr. Reese is not doing what we feel that she needs to be doing as a democrat, who she says she’s representing on the Board, and we [say] that she’s Randy’s best friend, and that’s why he got her there, because they denied everybody, then we need to find people in this group, and I’m willing to help facilitate that, to have that conversation about, hey, at this last meeting or these last meetings, we wanted to see this, but this has happened, and it seems like you voted with these individuals over here, please help us understand.”
Chair Blue Argo commented on local elections. She noted that Representative Patty Marie Stinson and Congressman Sanford Bishop were re-elected. Argo did note that smaller local races did not fare as well for democratic candidates. “None of them won.”
Davis stated they needed to send a communication to them thanking them for running. “We need to have a post mortem.” Davis stated they needed feedback from candidates. “How do you feel about the support that you got from the Democratic committee? How do you feel about the support you got from the community, and what would you like to see moving forward?”
First Vice-Chair Terrence Clemons was re-elected. Second Vice Chair Nancy Spice was re-elected, Secretary Brandon Stokes was re-elected, and Treasurer Ronda Reddick was re-elected. Argo declined to run again for Chair, and a new Chair has yet to be elected. A State Committee member also has yet to be elected.
