Americus-Sumter girls squash Marion 69-15

The Americus-Sumter Lady Panthers won a landslide 69-15 victory over the Marion County Lady Eagles on Jan. 2 in Americus. The Lady Panthers remain undefeated on the season with a 13-0 overall record and a 7-0 region record.

The Lady Panthers ruled the court from the tip-off, posting 19 unanswered points in the first quarter. The second saw the team put 15 more on the board while holding the Lady Eagles to five.

Americus’ girls came back from the half-time break with a 34-5 advantage that they continued to extend in the third frame, scoring 16 more points. Marion’s team had their most lucrative round in the third, but managed to post only eight points.

The Lady Panthers shooters continued their streak in the final stanza, putting 19 more points on the board while their strong defense held Marion to just two.

A’Tyanna Gaulden led the Lady Panthers’ scorers with 19 points. Jakala Stevenson followed with nine, while  Timia Swanson and Miya Crawford each posted eight.

Swanson came down with ten rebounds and Jy’kiera Long contributed six. Gaulden contributed seven assists and five steals. Long gained six steals.

The Lady Panthers return to action on Jan. 3 to face the Bainbridge Lady Bearcats in Americus at 6:00.
