New app checks fevers remotely in realtime

Waking your sick child up in the middle of the night to monitor their temperature may soon be a thing of the past thanks to a Bluetooth-equipped thermometer designed to be worn on the skin like an adhesive bandage and read via smartphone.
Developed by Cleveland-based Blue Spark Technologies and dubbed TempTraq, the device was among the latest innovations in wearable technology unveiled Tuesday at the annual CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas.
Download the TempTraq app, synch the thermometer to your mobile device, and as long as stay within 40 feet, you can monitor your child’s fever in realtime.
“TempTraq allows parents to keep a close watch on their child’s temperature without having to continually disturb them,” Blue Spark president and CEO John Gannon said in a press release.
The TempTraq app can be set to send alerts when your child’s temperature hits a certain degree. You can even beam their temperature timeline over to your doctor.
Blue Spark says the flexible battery in each thermometer will last a full 24 hours. If the fever you’re watching last longer than a day, simply remove the patch and apply another one.
“Our wireless, wearable thermometer gives parents peace of mind and their children the rest they need to get better,” Gannon said. “It’s the only way to monitor a sick child.”
The TempTraq app is available for download on both iOS and Android devices.
