AMERICUS — Mrs. Elizabeth Joyner Bass, 70, passed away Tuesday evening, Jan. 27, 2015, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, at Salem United Methodist Church. The Rev. Lawrence Wiggins and the Rev. Jim English will officiate. A private ceremony for the family will be held immediately following at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fort Valley, Ga. The family will receive friends at the family residence, 306 Sharon Drive, Americus.

Mrs. Bass was born Nov. 9, 1944, in Roberta, Ga., the daughter of the late James Cam “J.C.” Joyner and Virginia Holman Joyner in Crawford County. Moving to Sumter County in 1979, Elizabeth called Leslie, Ga., her home for many years, serving as an active and devoted member of Leslie Baptist Church, the Leslie Garden Club and the Keep Sumter Beautiful Commission. Helping found the Leslie Antique Show, now in its 27th year, Elizabeth was an involved and giving member for any organization in which she was involved. She worked for the Citizens Telephone Co. in Leslie for 20 years.

Elizabeth was known by all who knew her to be kind, loving, giving and selfless person, who truly put everyone she loved before herself. With a heart for God, she spent every day in prayer and worship and conversation with Him. The foundation and soul of her family her entire life, Elizabeth will be eternally missed by all who knew her. Her smile, laughter, loving words, acceptance and wisdom will live on in the hearts and memories of her dear family and friends. She was timeless — full of both love and grace for those she cared about and for those in need. A devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Elizabeth leaves of legacy of love, compassion, strength and determination.

Elizabeth is loved and remembered by her sons, John Christopher Savage of Clearwater, Fla., and Robert Lee Bass of Dawson, Ga., and his wife, Anne; her daughter, Mary Elizabeth Bass of Athens, Ga.; and her brother John Joyner of Georgetown, Ga., and his wife, Jamie; two sisters-in-law, Sara Joyner of Lake City, Fla., and Barbara Joyner of Byron, Ga.; nine grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Savage, Alan Keith Savage, Joseph Christopher Savage, John Kriston Savage, Forrest Holland “Woody” Savage, Charlie Justus Savage, Cheri Bass Foltz, Dawn Bass Harrison and Dee Bass. She also survived by nine great-grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Elizabeth is preceded in death by her son, Alan Keith Savage, and her husband, Robert Lee “Bud” Bass. She is also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Bobby Joyner, Larry Joyner and Roger Joyner, and one sister, Annelle Joyner Griffis.
