Jets, Lady Jets defeat Gordon and Andrew College

The South Georgia Technical College Jets and Lady Jets Division I intercollegiate basketball teams both came away with impressive Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) wins on the road on Feb. 2. The Jets traveled to Barnesville to play Gordon College and came away with a 77–62 win. The Lady Jets traveled to Cuthbert and defeated Andrew College 79–43.

The Lady Jets are still tied for first place in the conference with Darton State College with identical 11–2 GCAA records. The Lady Jets are now 19–5 overall. The Jets are currently in third place in the conference with an 8–5 performance in the GCAA and they are 15–8 overall. This was their seventh consecutive victory.

The Lady Jets struggled in the first half against Andrew College and were only ahead 24–20 at the end of the first period. They came back in the second half and outscored Andrew 55–23 to take the impressive 79-43 GCAA decision.

Freshman Cierra Bond and sophomore Alexis “Bre” Alexander were the top scorers for the Lady Jets with 18 points each. TaQuandra Mike added 13 points and Molly Brown closed out the double digit scoring with 11 points. Armstrong also had 18 rebounds and Molly Brown had six steals. Both Brittney Delva and Alexis Armstrong contributed five assists each.

In the men’s game in Barnesville, the Jets were led in scoring by Christian Nobles, who posted 19 points. Eric Gooden and Britton Reed both added 10 points each and Deriece Parks came up with nine. Austin Dasent and Tim Straughter were the top rebounders with six each.

The Jets and the Lady Jets will both be traveling again on Wednesday, February 4th. The Lady Jets will go to Albany to take on Darton College in a key GCAA match-up at 6 p.m. and the men travel to Waycross for a key game against South Georgia State College at 7 p.m. The Jets and Lady Jets will both be in action at home on Saturday, Feb. 7 against Chattahoochee Technical College at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Sophomore Day for the Jets and Lady Jets is set for Saturday, February 14th at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. There are currently 10 sophomores on the two squads. The Lady Jets have three sophomores and the Jets have seven.
