MACON — William D. NeSmith Jr., 92, of 5300 Zebulon Road, Macon, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, at Pine Pointe Hospice in Macon.

Born in Dodge County, he was the son of the late William D. NeSmith and Gertrude Haynes NeSmith. He served his country with honor as a member of the U.S. Army 630th Tank Destroyer Battalion Co. B during World War II. He began his career as the assistant Ccomptroller of The Bankers Health and Life Insurance Co., and retired from The Bibb Co. Mr. NeSmith was a member of Ingleside Baptist Church in Macon for 57 years and was a member of the Brotherhood Sunday School Class. He was an avid golfer.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Anne D. NeSmith of Macon; his daughter, Nancy Sasser of Macon; his son, William D. NeSmith III of Americus; his grandson, Haynes Killen; his granddaughters, Mary Alston Killen and Dallas NeSmith.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jonathon Killen and nine siblings.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8 in the chapel of Ingleside Baptist Church. Interment was private.

The family greeted friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
