AMERICUS — Mrs. Hazel E. Bass, 93, passed away on Friday evening, Feb.13, 2015, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Liberty Primitive Baptist Church in Smithville, with Elder Tony Marshall officiating. Burial followed at 3 p.m. in Mars Hill Cemetery in Calhoun County.

The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday evening, Feb. 16 at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., Americus.

Born Aug. 1, 1921 in Edison, Ga., she was a daughter of the late St. John Woolsey and Jesse Ferguson Woolsey. Mrs. Bass was a home maker and a member of Liberty Primitive Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Mitchell Bass Sr., and by two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include one daughter, Eloise Erwin (George) of Americus; two sons, William Mitchell Bass Jr. (Jean) of San Antonio, Texas, and John Monroe Bass (Glenda) of Albany; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Barbara Woolsey of Ellaville; and several nieces and nephews.
