Schley County Board of Health meets
The Schley County Board of Health met March 18. Chairman David Theiss opened the meeting . The Board of Health had to revise the state by-laws and accept the new wording.
Every three years you have to elect or re-elect new officers. The Board re-elected Theiss as chairman for another three years. Co-chairman Douglas Jamieson resigned and Adam Hathaway was elected as Co-chair. Hathaway is the new Schley County School superintendent.
Beverly Townsend of Columbus introduced the new Schley County Health Department nurse , Kirsty Smith will take her new position on April 1. She gave a nurse’s report being she had been filling in for awhile.
An Environmental Health report was given. Berta Cox gave the fiscal report and the CPA’s report.
The public is being asked to come in and have their blood drawn from any doctor’s office; the results should be back into your doctor’s office the next day with full results. This is much cheaper than the hospital.
The next meeting will be June 17.
Historical society board takes tour
On March 18, the Ellaville-Schley County Historical Society board was invited to tour the Schley County Courthouse and see the renovation of this special land mark.
The board was greeted by Bill Sawyer and Douglas Jamieson, who conducted the tour, explaining every detail that is being done now and that will be done later on to the courthouse as it’s being renovated. This special building is on National Register of Historic Places which means it will have to meet all codes.
The historical society board appreciated the tour and we thank Bill Sawyer and Douglas Jamieson and the Schley County Board of Commissioners for all that they are doing.

Historical society has special announcement
The Ellaville-Schley County Historical Society announces it will have a Memorial and Honor Wall in the Schley County Courthouse. The Court House is currently undergoing renovation of the downstairs area. This area will include three or four offices and also the rotunda with a wall designated as the Memorial and Honor Wall.
We will be placing two large plaques on the wall of the rotunda. Name plates will be mounted on a memorial plaque or an honor plaque. The name plates will be sponsored by any individuals wishing to honor or memorialize someone by having their name engraved on the wall.
The plaques will be installed after the renovations been completed in the courthouse. Each name plate can be purchased at a minimum cost of $35 or any greater amount that you would like to donate to the historical society. Membership is not required in order to participate.
We have already received names and everyone seems to be excited about this great honor. All proceeds will go to help preserve our history in Ellaville and Schley County.
If anyone would like to see the plaques I have them here at my home so come by and see them if you wish. You may pick up your applications at Ellaville Floral Shop, Gill’s Drugs or go on our website and copy an application or I’ll be glad to send you one; call 937-2116.
If you are doing more than one please get the amount of application as you wish to have the name placed on the wall. To mail it to me the instruction are on the applications.
Remember that all donations to the historical society are tax-deductible.
