AMERICUS — Lorena C. Deriso, 88, of 2001 S. Lee St., died Saturday, April 18, 2015, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. A native of Americus, she was born Oct. 2, 1926, the daughter of the late Thomas Matthew Cox and Laura Emma Cox. She was a member of First Christian Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Federated Garden Club of Americus and a resident of Magnolia Manor. Lorena was a beloved mother, grandmother and wife.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jim Smith officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2015, at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa FL 33607.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Susan Duff Cowart and Charles Cowart of Arlington; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gordon Duff of Tifton, and Patrick and Valerie Duff of Americus; three sisters, Alma Camp of Americus, Dorothy Barnette of Greer, S.C., and Rosa Preskitt of Americus; two brothers, Jack Cox of Americus and Gus Cox of Albany; and six grandchildren, Jessica Molina, Frances Larrea, Jake Cowart, Charlie Cowart, Cathleen Gilbert and Matt Duff. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Deriso, two infant daughters, and two sisters, Sally Burroughs and Martha Garrett.
