Lady Jets sign two new players for 2015-16

AMERICUS – South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets head basketball coach and athletic director James Frey announced that he has signed two new players for the 2015–2016 women’s basketball season.
Brooks Burns of Hawthorne High School in Hawthorne, Fla, and Mikaela “Twin” Jones from Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth, Va, have both signed national letters of intent to play basketball with the Lady Jets in the Division I National Junior College Athletic Association league.
Burns, a 5’ 9” small forward, averaged 17 points and 14 rebounds as a senior for the Lady Hornets. She was also named to the single A first team All-State squad in Florida.
Jones, a 6’2” forward, averaged 15 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks per game as a senior for the Presidents.
“I am very excited about these two players,” said Frey. “We have a great group of players returning from last season and I believe that both Brooks and Mikaela will be tremendous assets to the team.”
Burns and Jones will be joining a strong group of returnees from the 2014–2015 season. Starters Molly Brown, a 5’ 10” forward, Cierra Bond, a 5’ 9” guard, Brittney Delva, a 5’ 6” guard, Ty Henderson, a 5’ 6” point guard, Asia “Peaches” Smith, a 5’ 11” forward, and Claudia Perez, a 6’0” forward will all be returning to play with the Lady Jets next season.
Frey and Assistant Coach Kezia Conyers are continuing to seek top players for the upcoming season for the Lady Jets.
The Lady Jets are 78–25 under Frey. Frey was also named the 2014 Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) Coach of the Year.
