Dorothy Ann Knight Womack of Americus died peacefully at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital on Tuesday May 19, 2015 in Albany, Ga at the age of 83.

She is survived by a daughter Beverly Womack Butcher of Americus; granddaughter Holly Terry and husband Grant Terry of Mexico Beach, FL; siblings Alton Knight of Tyrone; Margaret Cook of Pine Mountain; Myra Hogsed & husband Allman of Canton; Betty Fussell & husband Ernest of Americus; Barbara Harbuck & husband Richard of Georgetown; Linda Flournoy of Albany; Sandra Durham & husband Gene of Albany; sister-in-law Faye Knight of Americus; a number of nieces and nephews as well as beloved pets Zoi Grace & Tippi Lou. She is preceded in death by husband James Womack; son Thomas Owen Womack; parents James and Bessie Knight; siblings Charles Knight and Jimmy Knight.

Dorothy Ann, “Mama Dot”, was born on February 26, 1932 in Woodbury, Ga. She graduated from Plains High School in 1950 and married James Womack in Manchester, GA in 1951. She retired from Manhattan Shirt Company of Americus after some 30 years of employment there. After retirement, she dedicated her time to sitting and caring for elderly. Her hobbies included mowing grass and watching the Young & The Restless. She was a loving wife, mother, & grandmother.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 10 AM at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery at 2817 Stevens Rd in Ellaville with Steve James officiating. The family will receive friends at 236 W Dodson St. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dorothy Ann’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to American Diabetes Association, Atlanta GA Office, 17 Executive Park, Suite 115, Atlanta, Ga. 30329-2012 or to Sumter Humane Society, 108 Industrial Blvd., Americus, Ga. 31719. .
