The Sumter County School system employs at least 50 teachers for students with special needs, all of whom are certified by the state. There are teachers to help special needs students integrate into the mainstream population, and teachers who work in separate classrooms with students who need more intensive one-on-one support. The system also provides occupational therapy, physical therapy, behavioral therapy and speech therapy.
