Dwight and Mary Ellen McCorkle meet friends in Juliette
On Aug. 23, Dwight and Mary Ellen McCorkle left to go to Juliette to meet her high school friend, Sandy and Richard Munroe of Acworth. Mary Ellen and Sandy were in the last class that graduated from Shaler High School in 1971, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
These couples met to have dinner at the “Whistle Stop Cafe ” where the movie “Fried Green Tomatoes” was filmed. When they finished discussing their upcoming class reunion, they visited all the various gift shops and looked around for awhile.
When they started home they stopped in Macon to visit with Dwight’s Uncle Bill and Aunt Cookie and Shueler for awhile and got home about 5:30 p.m. They enjoyed themselves so much seeing friends and family.
Schley County Health board to meet
The Schley County Board of Health meets at 11 a.m. Sept. 16 in the Department of Family and Children Services board room. All board members are asked to be present.
Ellaville Methodist Youth to have fundraiser
The Ellaville United Methodist Church Youth are raising money to go on a retreat to Epworth by the Sea on St. Simons Island. It will cost each youth $130, so they are in the process of selling Tupperware products. As everyone knows Tupperware has a lifetime guarantee on its products.
The youth leave for the retreat Nov. 13 and return Nov. 15.
Any MYF member can take orders or contact Anne Marie DeVane at 937-2525. The adults going with the youth on retreat are Anne Marie DeVane, Samantha (Sam) Willis and Wayne Morrow Jr. and about 12 youth.
The last day to purchase Tupperware is Sept. 20. Special items are on sale until the.
Ellaville United Methodist Church choir sings at Perfect Care
On the evening of Sept. 3, the Ellaville United Methodist Church Choir visited Perfect Care in Americus and sang for the residents.
Those who went were Wayne and Nora Morrow, Jody Dillard, Donna Dillard and Payton Dillard, Judy McClellon, Maci Lawhorn, Barbara Usry, Evelyn Stembridge, the Rev. Jonathan Beckum, Lee Ann Morris, Olivia Mallichek, Sharon Wall and Choir Director Mary Nan Pilcher.
Those doing specials were Wayne Morrow playing his harmonica; Jonathan Beckum sang a solo, and Maci Lawhorn and Barbara Usry sang a duet. The minister closed with prayer.
The choir returns to Perfect Care Oct. 1.
Special event to take place in Ellaville
You never know what you can find going on up here in Ellaville. This is the best community for supporting each other in everything that we do; it’s like one big happy family.
A special event here in Ellaville is scheduled for Sept. 19 at the American Legion Post when the Ellaville-Schley County Historical Society holds it auction. A barbecue supper starting at 5:30 p.m. and the auction starts at 7 p.m. There will be three other events going on that night as well.
Please donate items for the auction. When your items comes up for bids the auctioneer will announce who donated the items. This includes all who have donated. You do not have to be a member to donate. All donations are tax deductible.
Everyone’s invited. All proceeds will to preserve our history here.
