CORDELE – The fifth Annual Wink Taylor Classic Scholarship Golf Tournament, sponsored by the Dooly County Chamber of Commerce and the BIG PIG JIG®, is scheduled for Oct. 9 at the Lake Blackshear Resort Golf Club in Cordele. The 2015 tournament will mark a celebration of five years of community support, honor, spirit, competition, friendships, and charity under the name of the late Wink Taylor of Americus, Vienna and Cordele. This event has been a staple for many years as a preamble to the BIG PIG JIG® event.
The field of golfers is made up of some of the most influential members of the local business community, as well as dignitaries from the surrounding area. Local golf enthusiasts also embrace the tournament as well. The casual atmosphere, a fun and relaxed awards ceremony, and players of varying abilities have kept many individuals and businesses returning year after year. Proceeds from the Wink Taylor Classic benefit the Dooly County Chamber scholarship fund.
Last year’s scholarship recipient, Massey Evans, of Byromville recently said, “The scholarship helped me pay for my books mainly. I feel the scholarship is a great idea for helping and rewarding students for their academic achievements.”
Rhonda Lamb Heath, President/CEO of the Chamber said “The Dooly County Chamber/BIG PIG JIG® has sponsored academic scholarships for over 15 years now and we look forward to continuing to provide these important scholarships for many years to come”
