AMERICUS – The South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) Lady Jets 2015-16 intercollegiate basketball team was included in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) pre-season Division I women’s basketball poll released this week. The Lady Jets are currently ranked 16th in the nation and are the only Georgia team in the pre-season poll.
“Obviously, we are very pleased to be included in the NJCAA preseason poll. However, this is a pre-season poll. We have not played a regulation game yet, so we will just have to wait and see if we can put it all together and find the right combination to end the season with a number-16 or higher ranking. This poll is a compliment to what we did last season and an expectation for the coming year. We have some big shoes to fill but I believe if we work together, we can be in the hunt again this season,” said Lady Jets athletic director and head coach James Frey.
The Lady Jets finished the 2014-15 season as one of the top eight teams in the nation with a 29–8 overall record. They have five players returning including three individuals who started at different times during the season.
Chipola is currently ranked the number one team in the NJCAA Preseason poll and they are followed by Trinity Valley, Hutchinson Kansas, Southern Idaho and Gulf Coast State. The second five teams in order include: Northwest Florida State, Salt Lake, Seward County, New Mexico and Tyler Texas. Walters State, Central Florida, State Fair, Central Arizona and ASA New York close out the top 15 teams in the poll.
SGTC is ranked 16th and they are followed by Shelton State, Wabash Valley, Easter Arizona, and Midland, Texas. The last five teams include:  Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, Lake Region State, Odessa, Wallace State and Western Nebraska.
The Lady Jets have five players returning from their 2014 -15 season, including three players who started at different times last season. The other two had significant playing time as well.
