GSW cross country season comes to close at Southeast Regional

WINGATE, N.C. – The Georgia Southwestern women’s cross country team made its third consecutive appearance at the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional on Nov. 7 and finished in 23rd place out of 27 teams
Sophomore, Ashleigh Ownes, led the Lady Hurricanes with a time of 26:11.8 on the 6k rain-soaked course.
Owens finished 90th overall out of 182 competitors and moved up 33 spots from where she placed last fall. Freshman, Savannah Ross, crossed the finish line second for Southwestern with a time of 26:38.6, good for 103rd place. Freshman, Katherine McGarr, was the third Lady Hurricane to cross the line, posting a time of 26:54.3.
Sophomore, Mary Catharine Calcutt, finished in 27:54 for 138th place. Sophomore, Victoria Hickom, followed seven slots behind in 28:19.2 and freshman, Eyonnti Edwards, posted a time of 28:33.3.
With 30 points, Peach Belt Conference champions Montevallo finished ahead of race host Wingate (108), for the team title. The PBC placed three teams in the top five of the regional.
Catie Byrd from Queens University of Charlotte hung onto her title as she crossed the finish line first overall again this season with a time of 22:25.3. Byrd was 29 seconds off her pace from last year, another testament to the challenging race conditions on Saturday.
