Children of Dwight and Mary Ellen McCorkle come home for weekend
On Nov. 19, Dwight and Mary Ellen McCorkle’s children came for the weekend before Thanksgiving. Ricky and Kelly Sawicky of Apollo Beach, Florida, came up to be with his parents for this special weekend.
The following day, John and Rosa Sawicky and their sons, Mathew, Jonathan and Jeremiah Sawicky, came up from Valrica, Florida, for this special weekend with their parents and Grandma and Pappy.
The family came for the special weekend  with family and friends for such a great celebration before Thanksgiving. The grandsons love to come up and enjoy the outdoors and just being with their grandparents means so much to them.
They all left Sunday going back to their homes in Florida. Dwight and Mary Ellen look forward to these special visits as much as the children do.

The Justices have special guests for Thanksgiving week
On Nov. 24, Wilbur and Sandy Justice went to Atlanta to pick up Vicki’s sister and her husband, Joe and Iris  Menendez, at the airport. They came specially for the Thanksgiving holidays. Joe and Iris live in Greeley, Colorado, now. They always like to come home for special occasions, and they especially enjoy Thanksgiving with family. They had a great week and returned home on Dec. 1.

Community Thanksgiving Dinner a big success
Our Community Thanksgiving  Dinner was a big success thanks to residents here.
On Thanksgiving Day there has been a Community Thanksgiving Dinner served for the past eight years.
The loyalty of Neil Snyder started this special occasion for the homeless, home bound, elderly and needy. Neil thanks everyone that helped him out with this dinner. He said that the Schley County FFA students helped this year and they were a lot of help. He thanks all of those that made donations of food and money, and he especially thanks all of the volunteers that helped in preparing the food and serving it. He  said  words could never be found to express his appreciation for everyone volunteering to help.
They served over 300 or more on Thanksgiving Day. They delivered to the home bound all others came to the Ellaville City Center to have dinner. Only residents of the city and county here could attend.
Before everyone left, a Bible was given to each, as well as the home bound. The Bibles were donated by the Gideon Bible group. Bobby Tondee picked up the Bibles and gave them to Neil to give out.
Neil does not want to mention who all helped with this special event for fear of leaving someone out. So thank each and everyone for caring for others. God bless each of you.

Ellaville Methodist youth attend retreat
On Nov. 20-22, the Ellaville United Methodist Church youth attended an Encounter Youth Retreat at Epworth by the Sea.
They enjoyed special speakers as well as having a band doing the retreat. Our youth really enjoy going on these special trips that involve our church.
Youth and adults that attended were Trey Peacock, Lydia Bass, Mary Kate Streetman, Maggie Streetman, Sarah Morgan Vickery, Savannah Varnum, Caitlyn Lyons, Jasmine Sparks, Cydney Smith, Maci Lawhorn, Candice Wiggins, Makayla Willis, Melodi Thai, Faith Thai, Faith Brown and Hannah Beamon.
Adult youth leaders who attended were Ann Marie DeVane, Samantha Willis, Lee Ann Morris and Wayne Morrow Jr.

Former resident celebrates 100th birthday
On Nov. 17, Buddy Battle, a former resident of Ellaville, turned 100 years old. He  was honored with a lovely birthday reception on Nov. 27 at the Atlanta Country Club.
Buddy is married to the former Ann McMickle, who was raised here as well as Buddy.
His two sons and daughters-in-laws hosted this special event. They are Charles and Ginny Battle and Dixon and Lisa Battle.
Many family members and friends attended. Those that attended from Ellaville were Jimmy and Marianne Phillips, Margaret Gooding, Kevin and Ann Marie DeVane, T.J. DeVane, Mary Kate Streetman  and Maggie Streetman.
They all enjoyed being with Buddy and his family on this special occasion.

Schley High drama class presents a murder mystery
Schley County High School drama class is ready for its annual  Murder Mystery.
Please come see  an original piece they have written called “Family Feud: The Funeral Edition” at 7 p.m. Dec. 7 in the school lunch room.
Come early for a good seat. Dessert and appetizers will be served.
Tickets are on sale at the high school for $5, or pay at the door on the night of the show  for $7.
Come see the Crampits, The Brokendashions, The Robbers and The Silverspoons compete for the big money.
