Former Lady Jet, TaQuandra Mike, making waves at Witchita State

MIAMI, FL  — South Georgia Technical College’s (SGTC) 2014-2015 NJCAA All-American Honorable Mention, TaQuandra Mike, from Savannah, helped Wichita State University (WSU) defeat tournament host, Florida International University (FIU), 76-62, behind a career-high 28-point effort in the FIU Turkey Slam.
Mike was named to the Florida International University Turkey Slam All-tournament team after the match and she was named Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week in women’s basketball. Mike is starting for Wichita State this season as a junior college transfer from SGTC in Americus.
In the Turkey Slam tournament, Mike helped propel her team to victory with a game-high 28 points, 12 of which came from three-point territory while six were shot from the free throw line.
While at South Georgia Technical College, Mike averaged 17.2 points on 41.5 percent shooting from the field, including 36.2 percent from beyond the arc.  She helped lead SGTC to a 30-5 overall record and a 19-1 record in the Georgia Junior College Athletic Association.
The Lady Jets were 58-13 in the two seasons that Mike played with SGTC. The Lady Jets also established the longest winning streak in the history of the program with 20 consecutive victories in 2013-2014, one GJCAA regular-season conference title, two NJCAA Region XVII tournament titles, two District J titles, back-to-back NJCAA Division I national tournament appearances, the most wins in a single season and two sweet sixteen finishes in the NJCAA.
Mike was selected as a NJCAA Top 40 Student/Athlete as a freshman and, in 2014-2015, she was named to the GCAA First Team All-Conference team, the NJCAA Region XVII All-Tournament team and NJCAA All-American Honorable Mention. She also posted a school record with eight three-pointers in the 2015 NJCAA Region XVII championship game to lead the Lady jets to an upset against Darton State College on their home court.
Mike played at Groves High School in Garden City, GA and is majoring in exercise science at Wichita State in Wichita, KS.
