AMERICUS — Julena Varnell Jones, 88, of Americus, Georgia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015, at Perfect Care.
A native of Ocilla, she was born Feb. 25, 1927, the daughter of the late William and Allie Hudson. She graduated from Georgia Baptist College School of Nursing in 1945. She worked as a registered nurse at Sumter Regional Hospital and later at Magnolia Manor from which she retired. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Americus and Georgia Power Ambassadors Club.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Parks officiating. Burial was to be at 3 p.m. at Frank Church Cemetery in Ocilla. The family received friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016, at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel. Pallbearers include her grandsons.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Becky Jones of Orange Park, Fla., and Wes and Marsha Jones of Kennesaw; two sisters-in-law, Vivian Jones of Acworth and Grace Hudson of Ocilla; six grandchildren, Brad W. Jones, Summer F. Jones, Tara M. Collins, Alyssa D. Patterson, Christian D. Jones and Cameron S. Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Herman Claude Jones in 1999.
