One dead in Valley Drive homicide

AMERICUS — A homicide investigation continues by the Americus Police Department (APD) after a domestic dispute on Valley Drive over the weekend.
A press release from the APD states that officers and EMS were dispatched to 612 Valley Drive shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday in reference to a domestic related assault. They found two females to have been stabbed multiple times. Both women were taken to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center.
Lucianna S. Childs, 40, of 612 Valley Drive was pronounced dead at the hospital, while the other victim, a 48-year-old woman from Jonesboro, was treated and released.
A look out was placed on the suspect and the vehicle he was driving, and officers stopped him shortly after in the area of South Lee Street and Columbia Avenue. After further investigation by criminal investigators of the APD, Lafonzo B. Childs, 40, was charged with murder, aggravated assault, burglary, possession of a knife during commission of a crime and cruelty to children. He is being held in the Sumter County Jail.
