Annual GSW Martin Luther King Convocation scheduled for Jan. 20

AMERICUS — Georgia Southwestern State University will host its annual MLK Convocation at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20 in  Convocation Hall of the Student Success Center. The keynote speaker is Kecia M. Ashley, Ed.D., CEO and founder of Kecia Ashley Enterprises.
Ashley comes from a family of educators and has been in the field of education for over 20 years as a teacher and administrator in Alabama and Mississippi. She also serves as a consultant and as an adjunct professor at the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB).
Ashley received a bachelor’s degree in English education from Alcorn State University in Lorman, Miss.; a master’s in English education and an education specialist in educational leadership from UAB; and a doctorate in educational leadership from Samford University in Birmingham. Ashley was also nominated for Entrepreneur of the Year at the 2014 Alabama Black Achievers Gala.
The MLK Convocation is sponsored by the Americus-Sumter Movement Remembered Committee, SABU, GSW Student Affairs, the GSW National PanHellenic Council, and the Student Government Association.
