DAWSON — Dr. Frank Adams Wilson III of Leslie, died on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany. Graveside funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, in the Leslie City Cemetery with the Rev. Guy Mathis and the Rev. Wesley Kaylor officiating. Visitation will follow immediately after the service at Leslie United Methodist Church.
He was born on Feb. 28, 1921, to Frank Adams Wilson Jr. and Elizabeth Doney Wilson. He grew up in Leslie, attended Union High School and graduated from Emory University Medical School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a flight surgeon in the Pacific Theater during the end of World War II. He returned to Sumter County in l948, to begin his practice of medicine.
On Dec. 31, 1949, he married Adalyn Johnson of Ashburn. He will be remembered for his love of children and youth through his involvement with Boy Scouts and the Americus-Sumter County athletic teams. He loved his gardens, greenhouses, exotic plants, and sharing the beauty with others.
He was a member of the Americus Rotary Club and a lifelong member of the Leslie United Methodist Church. Family and friends were very important to him.
Dr. Wilson is survived by his wife of 66 years, Adalyn Johnson Wilson; children, Jane Abernathy (Joel), Dr. Frank Adams Wilson IV (Angie), Sara Gray (Carey), Dr. Emily Wilson, and Anne Norton (Bill);
Grandchildren, Dawn Whitten (Ken), Betsy Estes (Jonathan), Lyn Wilson, Lauren Wilson, Mary Frances Wilson, Sara Katherine Wilson, Frank A. Wilson V, Dallas Arnold, Rebecca Ricks (Steven), Anna Gray, Philip Norton, Tracy Schmeling, Loralea Burke, and Warren Abernathy (Jenny); great-grandchildren, Jackson Whitten, Angelina Burke, Elysia Burke, James Abernathy and Rebecca Abernathy.
The family suggests memorials to Leslie United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 116, Leslie GA 31764 or to a favorite charity of choice.
