Incumbent sheriff seeks reelection

AMERICUS — Incumbent sheriff of Sumter County, Pete Smith, seeks reelection.
He issued the following statement.
“Citizens of Sumter County, It has been an honor to serve as your Sheriff for the last 12 years. I am pleased to announce that I will be seeking reelection as sheriff of Sumter County in the upcoming election … I have qualified on the Republican ticket. As Sheriff, I will continue to loyally serve and protect this county with the integrity and respect that every citizen expects and deserves. I was born and raised here in Sumter County. I retired from the Georgia State Patrol as a trooper after serving 32 years. I started my law enforcement career in 1970 …
“I want to also remind every citizen of this county that I have always had an open door policy; please feel free to contact me at any time. I am available to the citizens of Sumter County 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.”
