AMERICUS — Ada Lee Cook (Cookie) Carson, 87, of Americus, Ga., died May 27, 2016, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center.
Graveside funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Americus, Ga. Pastor Stephen Golden officiated.
A native of Lee County, Ga., Mrs. Carson was born to the late Heyward and Lorice Cook. She graduated in 1945, from Lee County High School. After graduation, she moved to Americus to attend Georgia Southwestern and while she was there she met her husband, Ed Carson. Mrs. Carson was a school teacher, worked at the ASCS office, and Scott’s Jewelry as a bridal consultant for 25 years. She taught Sunday school for many years at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was a member of the Dogwood Garden Club of Americus, a lifetime member of the Garden Club of Georgia, and served on the State Board of Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years James Edward (Ed) Carson; a brother, Buddy Cook; and a sister, Mary Daniel.
Survivors include her daughters and their husbands, Cookie Peacock and Bobby, Carol Harvard and John, all of Americus, Ga., and Leigh Ann Peters and Paul of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; her grandchildren, Ryan Peters of Americus, Ga., Meg Posey of Fernandina Beach, Fla., Carley McDonald and Justin of Jesup, Ga., and Christopher Harvard of Athens, Ga.; her great-grandchildren Addison Posey, Easton Posey, and John Carson McDonald; a sister-in-law, Patsy Cook Whitaker of Ashville, N.C.; and a brother-in-law, Roy Daniel Sr. of Americus, Ga.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Carol and John Harvard, 374 District Line Road, Americus, Ga., 31709.
