Southland Academy held Career Day for its juniors and seniors in March at Central Baptist Church. This is a full day event designed for the students to hear from many different professionals explaining their educational paths and career experiences to help guide the students as they begin planning their futures. Russ Carreker, Southland alumnus and owner of Day 6 Outdoors, was keynote speaker. He began by motivating the students to be the best that they can be in whatever they choose to do in life. He defined success as having great relationships with God, family, and the people around us. During the morning, 26 professionals from the community volunteered their time to serve on panels in the business, education, legal, medical, service, and engineering areas.   In the afternoon, students learned about the college admissions process, services available in college to help with the transition, and also career interest inventories. Four recent Southland alumni who are current college students led a session focusing on real life college experiences by giving helpful tips on how to manage school work and a social life. They also encouraged the students to become involved with campus activities. Shown with Carreker, center, are four Southland students, Zayd Hasnain, Chris Shattles, Addie Cook, and Ellis Ivey.
