SGTC hosts representatives from federal elected officials campus

AMERICUS — Representatives from Senator Johnny Isakson, Senator David Perdue, and Congressman Sanford Bishop’s offices toured the South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) campus recently as the guests of SGTC President John Watford, Ed.D., and Technical College System of Georgia Assistant Commissioner for External Affairs Travis Johnson.
Drew Ross, field representative for Isakson; Charles White, Southwest Georgia field representative from Perdue’s office; as well as Michelle Sands, a field representative from Bishop’s office; met Watford and Johnson as well as SGTC Vice President of Academic Affairs David Kuipers, Vice President of Economic Development Wally Summers, Vice President of Student Affairs, Institutional Support and Technology Karen Werling, Vice President of Administrative Services Lea Coe, and Vice President of Institutional Advancement Su Ann Bird.  They also toured the SGTC facilities.
“South Georgia Technical College appreciates TCSG Assistant Commissioner Travis Johnson and these different representatives of our distinguished elected Congressmen and Senators taking time from their busy schedules to visit South Georgia Technical College,” said Watford. “We appreciate what our local, state, and federal officials do to enhance technical education and promote workforce development not only in our service area but across the state and nation.
“We are pleased to be able to showcase how South Georgia Technical College and other technical colleges across the state provide important educational training and job skills for the citizens of our area,” continued Watford. “We have an important mission to prepare individuals for the jobs of today and tomorrow.  A trained workforce leads to better economic development.  We appreciate the role that our elected officials play in helping promote this valuable work.”
Watford and Assistant Commissioner Johnson gave the individuals a tour of the college facility and showcased the many partnership opportunities that the college has with renowned business and industry leaders across the nation.
