AMERICUS — Henry Herschel Morris, age 90, of 2001 S. Lee St., died Sunday, Oct.  9, 2016. A native of Americus, he was born Oct. 21, 1925, the son of the late Henry Otis and Minnie Ruth Morris. Mr. Morris served during World War II in the U.S. Army and National Guard. Mr. Morris was the Post Master in Americus for 10 years and was a member of Americus Civitan Club, American Legion, VFW, Sumter Civic Fair Association, past chairman of Sumter County Election Board, board member for Council on Aging and also a bailiff with Sumter County for 10 years. Mr. Morris was also a member of Central Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016, at Central Baptist Church with the Rev. Hugh DeLoach and Dr. Bryan Myers officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 3-4 p.m., at Central Baptist Church. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, 1405 Clifton Road, Atlanta GA 30329 or Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone NC 28607.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Flossie Holley Morris of Americus; a daughter, Jennifer Rutledge of Livermore, Calif.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Nancy Morris of Cummings and John and Becky Morris of Americus; two sisters, Betty Gregory of Tampa, Fla., and Linda Jordan of Douglasville; a brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Terry Morris of Albany; three grandchildren, Jaime Rutledge, Heather Kemp and Robin Barfield; five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Holloway and Bonnie Tanner.
