Southland splits in Terrell Academy contests

AMERICUS – The Southland Academy Raiders and Lady Raiders hosted longtime rivals, Terrell Academy, on Dec. 6.
After a tough battle, the Lady Raiders cinched a 39-35 victory over the visitors before the Southland boys took the court to drop a 46-34 decision.
With the win, the Lady Raiders jump to 2-1 on the season while the Raiders drop to 3-1 with their first 2016 loss.
Kathleen Kinslow helped pave the way for the Lady Raider victory, contributing 14 points in the afternoon opener. Cassi Bass, Kendall Kirkland, and Savanna Banks each tossed in six points. Kirkland added eight rebounds while Banks pulled in another 10 and blocked two shots.
Alex Roach led the Raiders with 14 points, also contributing seven rebounds.
Both Southland teams returned to action on Dec. 9, hosting Windsor Academy in another series of non-Region tests. The results of these games were not available at press time.
The Raiders and Lady Raiders will hit the road on Dec. 10 for Auburn, Al. to take on Lee Scott Academy.
