Schley takes fifth region win over Greenville

GREENVILLE – The Schley County Wildcats’ basketball team hit the road on Jan. 3 to kick off 2017’s Region 4A schedule against the Greenville High School Patriots in Greenville.
After a tough battle, the ‘Cats made their move in the second half of the match-up to earn a 54-47 victory over their hosts. With the win, the Wildcats jump to 7-5 overall; 5-1 in Region 4A.
The Schley squad got off to a slow start in the test, falling behind five points (11-6) in the initial frame.
The Wildcats fared much better in the second stanza, scoring 11 points, but the Patriots still managed to add another 13 marks to their tally and take a 24-17 lead into half-time.
When play resumed, the Wildcats narrowed the gap by three points, outscoring their hosts 12-9 to take a 33-29 deficit into the final quarter. From there, the Wildcats blasted off on a 25-14 run to take the lead for good and earn the win.
The Wildcats returned to Region 4A action on Jan. 6, traveling to Vienna to take on the Dooly County Bobcats. The results of this contest were not available at press time.
The ‘Cats will return to action on Jan. 10, traveling to Butler to test their skills against the Taylor County Vikings in another region tilt. The Schley crew will return to their home court on Jan. 13 to battle the Crawford County Eagles.
