AMERICUS — Chasity Moody Oleson is a recent graduate of Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) and a veteran. She was recently honored as the School of Business Administration’s Outstanding Online Student.
Oleson, of Sylvester, graduated high school in 2011. Following high school, she began her college career at Georgia Southwestern and joined the Georgia Army National Guard.
In 2012, she moved to Savannah and married her husband Sgt. Gordon Oleson, who she met in Advanced Individual Training. She continued to earn her degree at GSW through the School of Business Administration’s online program.
“The GSW online program allowed me to stay at the same college where I started, which made the process easier,” she said. “My professors were extremely helpful when I was moving overseas and were very willing to accommodate my crazy schedule.”
In Savannah, she learned the skills to become an intelligence analyst and was called to active duty in Seoul, South Korea. Since March 2015, the Olesons and their two-year-old son Trevor have been stationed at the Youngsan Army base.
“GSW has prepared me to go into the business world,” she said. “I could tell everything I have been studying in the business school came together this semester in our capstone course.”
Liz Wilson, Ph.D., dean of the School of Business Administration, presented the Outstanding Online Student award virtually to specialist Oleson in a reception for graduating seniors.
Wilson noted that Oleson is a wonderful example of someone who has successfully managed multiple priorities in challenging circumstances and shined in her academics while serving her country.
“We are proud she is a Hurricane and thank her for serving our country,” Wilson said.
Oleson’s army contract ended this month. She and her family will be moving to Fort Carson, Colorado, in March, where her husband will be stationed
