ABT places second at 2017 Georgia Hurricane Groundhog Meet

COLUMBUS – The Americus Blue Tide (ABT) took a surprising second-place finish at the Georgia Hurricane Groundhog Meet near the end of July in Columbus. The ABT squad of twenty-six swimmers, comprised of competitors from Americus, Albany and Moultrie, defeated several larger teams on their way to the awards podium.
Daniel Iordanov, of Americus, led the team with 153 points, placing first in the 13-14 year-old boys’ 200-yard butterfly event. Iordanov also placed second in the 100-yard freestyle, 500 free, 1000-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly, and 400-yard individual medley. Iordanov set personal times in all of his events, achieving five AA times along the way.
Other top scorers from Americus included Antony DeMott with 126 points and wins in the 13-14 year-old boys’ 50 freestyle, 50-yard butterfly, 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard butterfly, and the 100-yard individual medley. Kelli Hill scored 79 points. Tissa Evans scored 58 and Marianna DeTitta scored 51 points.
Additional support from Americus included personal bests and top finishes for Cole Parkinson, Davis Peck, Ryan Peck, Nikki Remollino, and Aidan Wu.
The Blue Tide offers a free week of training for interested swimmers at the GSW pool Monday through Thursday 4:00-5:00 p.m., and at the Albany State College pool from 5:00-6:00 p.m.
