Area schools release All-Region, All-State rosters

Southland Academy, Americus-Sumter High School (ASHS), and Schley County High School recently released the names of their respective schools’ 2017 All-Region and All-State basketball players.
In Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Region 1-AAAA competition, the ASHS Panthers had three players named to the All-Region teams. ASHS’ Kiante Sims was named First Team All-Region while Eric Hall and Jurrell Jones both received Second Team All-Region honors.
For the Lady Panthers, Timia Swanson was named First Team All-Region. Swanson was also named to the Georgia Coaches Association All State second team. Jykiera Long was named Second Team All-Region.
For the Southland Academy Raiders, juniors, Alex Roach, Harrison Bell, and Saige Batten were each named to the Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) Region 3-AAA All-Region Teams.
In addition to this honor, Roach was named to the All-State Team and was recognized as the Region 3-IAAA Player of the Year.
The Raiders’ lone senior, Josh Mckie, received honorable mention.
The Lady Raiders had a trio of players named to the All Region Teams as well, including Kathleen Kinslow, Cassi Bass, and Sydney Payne. Senior, Keendall Kirkland, was named honorable mention All-Region alongside teammate, Savanna Banks.
For the GHSA Region 4-A Schley County Wildcats, Demarcus Scott was named First Team All-Region for his performance on the court this past season. Dorion Bateman and Kevin Stone were each named Second Team All-Region.
Schley freshman, Zykievious Walker, was honored as Defensive Player of the Year.
Schley’s Christian Arnett and Marquell Sims both received honorable mentions.
For the Lady Wildcats, Chelsey Carter was named First Team All-Region and Emily Campbell received Second Team All-Region honors.
Kelly Reese and Maddie Tobin were both named honorable mentions.
