PLAINS – The Seventh Annual Peanut Classic Wooden Bat Baseball Tournament was held on March 17-18 at the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site (JCNHS) in Plains. Schools participating this year were Pataula Charter Academy, Furlow Charter School, Americus-Sumter Middle School (ASMS), and Terrell County Middle School (TCMS).
TCMS took first place in the tournament, followed by the ASMS Panthers. Patuala Charter School came in third place.
A recent press release from the sponsors of the tournament stated, “Congratulations to all the players for their hard work and dedication to the sport.”
The tradition of Plains High School (PHS) and sporting events is expansive. President Jimmy Carter fondly recalls the importance both sports and PHS played during his youth; baseball being a particular favorite of his and his fellow playmates.
The restored baseball field provides a wonderful location for community members to come together and enjoy America’s favorite past-time as well as experience a sense of community not unlike that which President and Mrs. Carter experienced during their youth.
Please be sure to check for upcoming events at www.nps.gov/jica. Members of the community can join JCNHS’ online family by following them on Facebook at Jimmy Carter NHS, on Twitter at @JimmyCarterNPS, and on Instagram at jimmycarternps.
