AMERICUS — Mr. Darrell “Jerry” Skinner, age 92, of Magnolia Manor Garden Apartments, passed away on Monday afternoon, April 3, 2017, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center.
Services are planned for 3 p.m. on Friday, April 7, in the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St. The Rev. Steve Golden will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. on Friday at Hancock Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of Hope and Mark Griggs, 199 McMath Mill Road in Americus.
Born April 18, 1925, in Tecumseh, Michigan, he was a son of the late Verdi Skinner and Anna Louise Seitz Skinner. Mr. Skinner was retired from Kinder Furniture Manufacturing Co. where he worked as a truck driver. He was an avid fisherman.
Mr. Skinner was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy from 1942 until 1945, having been stationed on the USS Salamonie AO-26.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Martha Delores Carlisle Skinner; his children: Robert Skinner, Delores Melly (Barry), Carol D. Carlisle, Thomas Skinner, Juin Barnier (Dan), and Greg Skinner; grandchildren: Chris Skinner, Hope Griggs (Mark), Alvin Carlisle, Nikki Eggers (Barry), Brandi, Carl, Seji and Karl Carlisle, Victor and Joe Abrams, Nichole and Thomas Skinner Jr., Robert Barnier (Heather), Jeremy Barnier, Dan Barnier Jr. (Emily), and Erika Wheeler (Dan); 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a son by the heart, Thomas Atherton; a beloved daughter-in-law, Annette Carlisle; one sister, Ioda Bufford; and several nieces and nephews.
