AMERICUS — Mr. Roy F. Daniel Sr., age 90, of 235 District Line Road, Americus died Friday, May 26, 2017, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 29, 2017, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. Andy Taunton and the Rev. Thomas Woolsey officiated. Interment followed at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. A visitation was held from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, May 28, 2017, at Aldridge Funeral Services.

 

Mr. Roy F. Daniel was born Jan. 14, 1927, in Sumter County. He was the son of the late George Emmett Daniel and the late Minnie McAllister Daniel. Mr. Daniel was a U.S. Navy veteran. He spent his entire life as a farmer. He served as a deacon of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for 67 years and served on the board of Sumter Bank & Trust and the board of the Sumter Livestock Association. He also served on the board of Farm Credit.

 

Survivors include: two daughters, Linda Daniels (Preston) of Hixon, Tenn., and Dolly Hooks (Chris) of Americus, Ga.; two sons, Roy F. Daniel Jr. (Jean) of Americus, Ga., and Ken M. Daniel of Americus, Ga.; one sister, Mildred Osborne of Americus, Ga., and three grandchildren, Joey Daniel of Hixon, Tenn., Zack Daniel and Alex Hooks. both of Americus, Ga.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 1256 U.S. Highway 280 East, Americus GA 31709 and to the Sumter Humane Society, 108 Industrial Blvd., Americus GA 31719, or charity of your choice.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Frances Daniel; a brother, George E Daniel; and a sister Louise Daniel.
