AMERICUS — James Preston Reeves, 84, of Leslie, Ga., died Tuesday, July 4, 2017, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center. Funeral services, with full military honors, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 8 in the chapel of Aldridge Funeral Services and interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Americus, Ga. The Rev. Damon Fountain will officiate.

James was born on July 20, 1932, in Americus, Ga., the son of the late Preston Reeves and the late Zelma Parker Reeves. James served 22 years in the United States Air Force, served in the Vietnam War and retired as master first sergeant of the 19th Bomb Wing, Warner Robins AFB, Ga., and he also served 30 years in law enforcement, both as chief of police in Leslie, Ga., and retiring with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Survivors include two sons: Danny Reeves of Albany, Ga., and Richard Reeves of Huntsville, Ala.; and a brother: Rex Reeves (Dorothy) of Americus, Ga.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Elizabeth Kern Reeves and a brother William Parker.

In lieu of flowers, James’ family has requested a donation be made to the Georgia Sheriff’s Boys Ranch in Hahira Ga.
