AMERICUS — Be Young, Be Active, Be Healthy is the theme at this year’s Children’s Health Fair hosted by Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. Children and their parents are invited to this free event from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. July 22 at The Columns Building at Boone Park, 408 Rucker St. in Americus.
“Our Children’s Health Fair is such a fun event and we look forward to hosting it each year. Children are our future and teaching them how to live healthy, active lifestyles is important for their growth and development,” said Brandi Lunneborg, CEO, Phoebe Sumter Medical Center.
Free health screenings will be offered for children ages 5 to 17. Screenings include weight, BMI, blood pressure and blood sugar. It is important to note that children should not eat after midnight the night before for an accurate blood sugar screening. The Rural Georgia Healthy Housing Advisory Group will be on-site to provide soil screening for lead. Those interested need to bring a soil sample in a one-quart Ziploc bag.
In addition to education booths, Phoebe Sumter will be distributing school items such as pencils, paper, and rulers while supplies last. There will be music, games, a dance contest and a young chefs cooking contest. A healthy lunch will be provided to children participating. All children attending the health fair must have adult supervision. For more information, please call 229-931-6812.
