Ellaville Police Chief attends conference
Ellaville Police Chief Robby Lightner attended a four-day conference as part of continuing education and training in the administration of law enforcement that all are required to maintain. This conference is sponsored by the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police (GACP) and 560 chiefs from all over Georgia attended.
The annual training conference was held July 23-26 at the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center. This year’s conference covered a variety of subjects.
Warden Dennis Nelson of Clayton County Corrections Department and GACP president, said, “Law enforcement executives today face a multitude of challenges in carrying out their duties and responsible in the local communities. These challenges have never been greater than they are today.
“This year’s training conference provided outstanding training and networking opportunities for these law enforcement leaders so they can continue to build positive relationships with their community while providing exceptional service.”

Local man burned in accident
A spark recently caused an explosion at the Schley County Line Auto Repair Shop on U.S. Highway 19 in Schley County, resulting in James Brown Jr. being burned on his face. He was air-lifted to Grady Hospital in Atlanta. Thankfully, his burns were not as severe as first thought and he spent only one night at Grady before returning home.

Historical society holds membership meeting
On Aug. 19, the Ellaville-Schley County Historical Society held a membership meeting at the Thomas Edwin wall Post 191 American Legion. President Nancy McMath Young called the meeting to order and Wayne Morrow Sr. opened with prayer.
In new business, special projects were discussed. The annual Ellaville-Schley County Historical Auction will be held Oct. 7 at the Legion. The Auction Committee will meet soon.
After the meeting, delicious refreshments were served while members enjoyed fellowship.

Schley County Sheriff attends conference
Schley County Sheriff Shane Tondee attended the annual Georgia Sheriffs Association Conference July 18-20 at Lake Lanier, Gainesville. He was among about 100 Georgia sheriffs in attendance.
Georgia Lt. Governor Casey Cagle and Secretary of State Brian Kemp, who are both running for governor, were both present.
