AMERICUS — Charles Shirley Cole, 90, of Americus, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, at his home. A native of Ocilla, he was born Dec. 11, 1926, to the late Charles Alfred Cole and Ruth Turner Cole.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Valdosta. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 2017 at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel in Americus.

Mr. Cole grew up and completed his high school education in Ocilla. Afterward, he moved to Chicago, Ill. with his mother and step-father, Joseph Thelen. He lived there several years before returning back to Georgia. After moving back to Georgia, he worked for Metal Products in Valdosta for 18 years; then moved to Americus and worked for Metalux and Cooper Industries until retiring. After retiring, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle, traveling the United States, going to Alaska, and going camping with old and new friends.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Macie Roe Cole of Americus; a daughter, Shirley Ann Cole of Americus; and a sister, Virginia Cole Brightwell of Valdosta.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Cole was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Cole Swadley; stepfather, Joseph Thelen; and two brothers-in-law, John Brightwell and Wally Swadley.
