AMERICUS — JoAnn Virginia Flanders Plunkett, 74, of Americus died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. A native of Panama City, Fla., she was born Sept. 24, 1942, to the late Clyde Melvin Flanders and Mary Pauline Attaway Flanders. She enjoyed fishing and camping, working puzzles, and Braves baseball. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion and retired from Wal-Mart as the pet department manager.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017, at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel in Americus. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Allen Brock officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Americus.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Tracy Plunkett, and two sons: James Earl Plunkett and Joseph Kevin Plunkett; all of Americus. Also surviving are a sister, Shirley Flanders Ball of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers: Riley Flanders of Jacksonville, Fla., and Ronald Flanders of Americus; a granddaughter, Haley Morgan Plunkett of Americus; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Nolan Plunkett; a son, Jerry Edward Plunkett; and two brothers: Clyde Melvin Flanders Jr. and Gary Gaston Flanders.
