(Oct. 5-10)
• Firefighters responded to 20 calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on East Forsyth Street where the vehicle was leaking fluid onto the roadway. They used oil dry to cover the spill and stood by until wrecker service arrived and cleared the roadway.
• Firefighters responded to West Lamar Street to a report of a vehicle fire. They found an unoccupied vehicle with visible flames coming from the engine compartment and passenger compartment. They extinguished the fire and checked for hot spots.
• Firefighters responded to Crawford Street to a report of a power line down. A witness reported that a semi-truck had struck power lines which had created sparks. They found minor damage to the structure and notified Georgia Power.
• Firefighters responded to Elm Avenue and Smith Street to a report of a small rubbish fire which was smoldering. They extinguished it.
• Firefighters responded to East Jefferson Street to a report of a possible structure fire. When they arrived, the fire had already been extinguished by the homeowner. They removed smoldering clothes on a convection plate and ventilated the structure after checking for further hazards.
• Firefighters responded to Garden Lane to a carbon monoxide alarm. They detected no hazards and were informed by the owner that the battery was low on the alarm and was chirping. They advised the homeowner to replace the batteries.
• Firefighters responded to the Methodist Home for Children at 100 Mill Creek Road to a report of a possible structure fire. The structure was being evacuated. Two residents had smelled smoke inside their room. No hazards were found.
