ELLAVILLE — The Southern Region Teen Leadership Conference is the first-of-its-kind, multi-state 4-H conference created to bring together 4-H teens and adults to empower and inspire them to make a positive change across the southern region through youth-adult partnerships.
Anna Trussell, a Schley County 4-H’er, recently attended this Conference held in Tennessee. There were 4-H’ers from 13 different states participating.
As part of the conference, the teens participated in service projects and raised over $3,000 for youth in foster care. The 4-H’ers also had the opportunity to learn about the foods in the other states with “Taste the State” where Georgia served peach lollypops, and peanuts. Each 4-H’er also attended workshops and team building activities.
Anna also presented her project — Sensory Blankets for Dementia Patients — where the 4-H’ers decorate a square of material with assorted items like buttons, ribbons, etc. The finished product will be donated to dementia patients to help with anxiety. In between the workshops and classes there was a lot of fun with a t-shirt exchange and a dance.
