AMERICUS — Officials with Phoebe Sumter Medical Center and Air Evac Lifeteam gathered on Thursday to break ground on a new air medical facility. The Cordele Air Evac Lifeteam base is moving to Americus, and will be located on the campus of Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. Construction typically takes four to six months.
Brandi Lunneborg, chief executive officer of Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, said she is delighted to welcome Air Evac Lifeteam to the hospital and the community.
“We look forward to this partnership that will ensure citizens of this region the added benefit of air ambulances’ vital speed and access to lifesaving emergency care,” Lunneborg said.
Robbie Latimore, Ed.D., Phoebe Sumter Medical Center board chair, agreed.
“As chair of the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center board of directors, my goal is to ensure our citizens have access to quality care right here in Americus,” Latimore said. “We are very fortunate to soon have air ambulances — quite literally in our own backyard — whose speed and technology help safely transport our most critically ill and injured patients.”
Chase Lott, program director for the Air Evac Lifeteam base, looks forward to serving the citizens in and around Americus.
“Our helicopter serves a 70-mile radius, and we are excited for our new home in Americus,” Lott said. “Air Evac Lifeteam is dedicated to providing ACCESS to a higher level of emergency health care for those who need it most.”
