AMERICUS — Georgia Southwestern State University’s (GSW) nursing students association earned the “Chapter of the Year” award for both the South District and for Georgia District at the annual Georgia Association of Nursing Students (GANS) annual conference in Columbus.
Better known as GSWANS (Georgia Southwestern Association of Nursing Students), the student group was judged based on their work on campus and in the community from the prior year. There are 10 chapters in Georgia’s South District and 33 in the state of Georgia — public, private and technical colleges. GSWANS earned the top award amongst them all.
“Our nursing students being named the top chapter in the state speaks to the level of commitment they have to their school, to their community and to each other,” said Rhonda Slocumb, GSWANS advisor and lecturer of nursing. “I am incredibly proud of them and their work with GSWANS. They deserve this.”
All students registered as pre-nursing or nursing majors are invited to become members in GSWANS. The local organization works to promote community service and professional involvement in nursing at the local, state and national level.
