AMERICUS — Mrs. Gail Griggs Alston, 59, lost her long-fought battle with cancer on March 3, 2018, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Ga. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6, to honor Mrs. Alston.

Mrs. Alston worked for the SOWEGA Council on Aging for many years. She was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Ga. She was an incredibly strong woman, with great perseverance that loved her grand babies dearly.

Mrs. Alston was preceded in death by: her husband, Robert Brinson Alston; her father, James Marvin Griggs Sr.; and Mr. and Mrs. George Robert Alston.

Mrs. Alston is survived by: her daughter, Shonna Shellhouse (Mark) of Leesburg, Ga.; her grandchildren, Lily and Carter Shellhouse; her mother, Eunice A. Griggs; her sister, Maxine Beall (Leon); her brother, Marvin Griggs (Lynn); her sisters-in-law, Lisa Montgomery (Bob), Joy Cromer, and Neva Carter. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and close friends that she also loved very much.
