Each year with the help of the Georgia Forestry Commission, Southland Academy first graders observe Georgia Arbor Day by planting a class tree on our campus. This year the Forestry Commission combined the traditional event with the celebration of ‘Read Across Georgia.’ Ranger Mark Shutters shared the book, The Tree Farmer, with the children before the planting ceremony and entertained them with fun facts about our trees. Students shown with Shutters and his helper Ranger Erin Napoli are, bottom row, Andrew Smarr, Hampton Lloyd, Mason Dowdey, Matthew Owens, Alex Deriso, Addy Harrod, and Xander Haynie; top row, Ellie Ferguson, Caitlin Kidd, Kenzie Stanfield, Sara Lane Fussell, Addie Harper, Lucy Hart, Arden Wheeler, Paul Grimes, Clay Hicks, Hudson Goodin, Camilo Sanchez, Hannah Horne, Haddon Collins, and Anna Beth Brady.
