ELLAVILLE – The Schley County Baseball Team took on GISA opponent Westfield Thursday, March 22, and totally dominated the Hornets 12-3.

The Wildcats scored 12 runs on 11 hits and committed three errors. However, they took advantage of five errors committed by the Hornets. Westfield scored three runs on six hits.

Both Chance Hollomon and Camron Vanlerberghe went 1-for-3 and each drove in two RBIs and scored a run. Jordan Hall went 2-for-4 with a walk and scored two runs. Wade Law had an excellent day at the plate for the Wildcats. He went 3-for-4.

Dylan Taylor was the starting pitcher for Schley County. He worked four innings and surrendered two runs on three hits. He walked two and struck out two. He was relieved by Dylan Windham, who worked one inning. Windham allowed one run on two hits. Lorne Barineau finished up the game, working two innings. He allowed one hit, but surrendered no runs. He walked none and struck out two batters.

Westfield got on the board first in the top of the first when Tee Adams hit a ground ball to second baseman Camron Vanlerberghe, who mishandled it. The error allowed Wyatt Young to score. Young had reached earlier on a walk and Michael Fitzpatrick singled, advancing Young to third. Matt Huckabee grounded out to shortstop Garrett Peavy, and Taylor struck out Peyton Black to end the inning, preventing further damage.

The Wildcats responded with a run in their half of the first. Jordan Hall led off with a double. Then Hollomon reached on an error by Westfield starter Hunter Hancock. This advanced Hall to third. Camron Vanlerberghe hit into a sacrifice, scoring Hall and tying the game at 1-1.

Schley County took the lead in the bottom of the second. Dylan Taylor led off with a single. Then Trent Bivins grounded out, but courtesy runner Ricky White advanced to third on the play. Then a balk was called against Westfield pitcher Hunter Hancock, advancing Taylor to second. Then Dakota Albritton hit a sacrifice fly, scoring White.

The Wildcats scored four more runs in the bottom of the third. Chance Hollomon was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame. After Vanlerberghe popped out to shortstop for the first out, Wade Law singled, advancing Hollomon to second base. Courtesy runner Logan Wurtz came in to run for Law. Ashton Goodin was hit by a pitch, which advanced Hollomon to third and Wurtz to second. The bases were loaded for Cameron Belcher. However, his fly out to right field was not deep enough to score the run. However, Dylan Taylor hit a fly ball and reached on an error by left fielder Wyatt Young. This allowed two runs to score, making it 4-1 Schley County. After Ricky White was brought in to run for Taylor, Trent Bivins singled, driving in Goodin to make it 5-1 Wildcats. Dakota Albritton was called out on strikes, but an error by Westfield right fielder Hatch Brannon allowed White to score, making it 6-1.

Westfield was able to get a run in the top of the top of the fourth inning, but Schley County scored three more in the bottom of the fourth, making it 9-2 Wildcats. The Hornets got one run in their half of the fifth, but the Wildcats scored two more in their half of the fifth inning. They were able to take advantage of an error and a wild pitch.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Wildcats got their final run of the game. With one out, both Taylor and Bivins drew walks. Then Albritton doubled to center field, scoring Taylor. That would be it for the Wildcat offense. The Hornets went in order in the top of the seventh to end the ball game. The Wildcats (10-2, 7-1) return the favor Friday night, March 23,  as they travel to Perry to take on Westfield at their place. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
