PARROTT — Rebecca Rutherford Alston, 93, of Parrott, died April 17, 2018.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. April 23, 2018, at Parrott Cemetery. The Rev. Tim Olds will officiate.
Mrs. Alston was born July 15, 1924, in Parrott, Georgia, to Claude E. Rutherford and Minnie Waddey Rutherford. She graduated in 1941, from Parrott High School. She married Frank Fletcher Alston Jr. on Aug. 7, 1944, in Eufaula, Ala.
Mrs. Alston worked at the War Pricing and Rationing Office in Dawson during World War II. She was a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution for over 50 years. She served as regent of the Stone Castle Chapter, and later of the Old Herod Chapter. She was reared in Parrott First United Methodist Church, and later in life joined Dawson Presbyterian Church.
She and her husband were involved in the Eighth Air Force Historical Society and traveled widely with the group. She enjoyed playing the piano, painting, sewing and needlepoint. She had a sharp wit and a sweet, compassionate nature.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frank F. Alston Jr., on Aug. 25, 2017, and her eldest son, Ronald Andrew Alston, on May 4, 2016.
She is survived by a daughter, Beth Alston of Americus; and a son, Dennis R. Alston of Leesburg; a sister-in-law, Mary Frank Alston Laviner of Dawson, and a brother-in-law, Charlie W. Alston of Troy, Ala.; a number of nieces and nephews; and caregivers/friends Lamon Brand and Jimmy Chandler.
